Difference between Fear and Respect

The debate between fear and respect is still on the table. Respect is a positive feeling of esteem or deference for a person. As for what is fear, it is an emotion induced by a perceived threat which causes people to quickly pull always from the feared.

Fear and respect, as contrasting aspect as it may seem, do have their similarities. Both the feeling of fear and respect arise in reaction to the action of other people. It is the difference in action that defines whether a person fears someone or respects them. Fear makes people want to get away from the feared as soon as possible while respect attracts them. Fear is generated due to physical or mental abuse experienced whereas respect is built on trust and confidence. Both fear and respect are expressions that increases more and more due to ones actions, but respect is line-enhancing while fear is life-threatening.

Fear can be sometimes mistaken for respect. Just because the Jews did what the Nazi’s told them to do, doesn’t mean that the Jews respected them they did it because they were afraid the Nazis would kill them. Fear is only a naturally response to the coming danger. Respect is not earned by making people fear you it is earned by showing compassion. Lord Buddha was respected by all because of his compassion. He showed his love to even his critics and his haters. He was respected not only compassionate but also because he was forgiving. Experiencing fear can make one crippling, or eve make one feel like escaping when it is not appropriate to do so. But, it is not always adaptive. A small amount of fear before an important speech serves a purpose. It encourages you to focus on your topic and avoid making a fool of yourself. Respecting someone or being respected, in contrast, always spurs attraction, love and trust.

Fear and respect, similar as it may seem, are still two contrasting feelings. One enhances people to continue following whereas the other leads people to run away. Trusting in others, and respecting them invites respect itself whereas, abuse others and threatening them always invites fear.
